Scout Responsibilities

  1. Know and live by the ideals of Scouting contained in the:

    a) Scout Oath
    b) Scout Motto
    c) Scout Law
    d) Scout Slogan
    e) Outdoor Code

  2. Read and abide by the Troop Rules, Camping Rules and Guidelines, and the Account Rules and Guidelines documents.

  3. Read and strive to reach the goals outlined in the Troop Goals documents.

  4. You are responsible for your own advancement. The adult leadership will always be there to help and assist you, but you are ultimately the one who controls how far and how fast you advance.

  5. All Scouts in this Troop will be FRIENDS; there will be NO outcasts or social groups. New Scouts will be welcome in the Troop by everyone. We are to help each other and we do not put each other down.

  6. Each Scout is to develop a POSITIVE, constructive attitude – not a negative one.

  7. Scouts are to be an active member of the Troop by attending a high percentage of Troop meetings, Campouts, Fund Raising activities, Service and Conservation Projects.

  8. You own and run as much of the Troop as you can handle; the adult leadership will allow you as much authority as you can and want to handle.

  9. You should be on time for Troop meetings, even at campouts, summer camp activities, etc.

  10. Keep yourself and your parents aware of upcoming events well ahead of time. Check the Troop 271 web site and the Scout Calendar as necessary for updates.

  11. Be adaptable – be able to adjust to new and changing situations.

  12. Perform the duties of your position within the Troop.

  13. Participate in all events at campouts and summer camp.

  14. Pack correct gear for activities.

  15. If you see something that needs to be done, pitch in and do it or help even if it is not your direct responsibility.

  16. Demonstrate DISCIPLINE and SELF-CONTROL.

  17. Demonstrate SELF-RESPECT and respect for others both inside and outside the Troop.

  18. Handle Scout equipment with respect and care for it as if it were your own.

  19. Be a good competitor and a good sport – WIN or LOSE.

  20. Uniforms will be worn at all activities. Your Senior Patrol Leader will advise you as to whether you wear your Class “A” or Class “B” uniform to the event or activity.

    a) Uniforms should only have pins and patches which are associated with Scouting.
    b) Pins and patches should be arranged properly.
    c) Take pride in your personal appearance and uniform, and wear it neatly.

  21. Bring your Scout Handbook to all meetings, campouts and summer camp.

  22. Do not bring extra candy and junk food on campouts or to summer camp. AT NO TIME are you to keep food of any kind in your TENT.

  23. Be safety conscious in all Scout activities.
