Camping Rules and Guidelines

Return to Troop Guidelines, Goals, Rules and Responsibilities

  1. Two deep leadership rules will be observed at all times.

  2. Any Scout that wishes to use a Hand Axe, Axe, Maul, Wedge and Sledge or Bow Saw must have on his person, a properly certified Totin’ Chip card and must be able to show it upon demand by any member of the Patrol Leaders Council or any Adult Leader.

  3. Any and all of the above equipment when used must be contained in a well-defined Axe Yard with no more than one Scout holding and one Scout actively using the tools. Both Scouts must have proper Totin’ Chip cards in their possession. Whenever possible, we prefer only one person in the Axe Yard at a time and that a proper safe Blood Zone is maintained at all times.

  4. At NO time may the Axe Yard be used by a Scout either before sun up or after sun down. Sufficient natural light must be present at all times. Lanterns will not be considered sufficient light.

  5. Scouts are not permitted to light the propane lanterns or propane stoves unless they have been given the proper safety instructions on how to safely operate them.

  6. Scouts wishing to light fires should have in their possession a certified Firem’n Chit Card and only start them in our above ground fire barrel after getting the approval from an adult leader. The same is true for starting the charcoal lighter.

  7. Scouts should check the duty roster board and know what duties have been assigned to them and then carry them out as needed in a timely manner.

  8. Tents are for sleeping, changing clothes and storing your gear. You should not be in your tent during the day or night unless you are doing one of the above things.

  9. At NO TIME is a SCOUT permitted to KEEP or STORE FOOD of any kind in his TENT.

  10. All Scouts are expected to live and follow the Outdoor Code.

  11. When leaving camp you are to notify an adult that you are leaving and where you are going and in the instances such as camporees the buddy system should be used. At summer camp you must tell the adults where you are going and what you are doing, so that they know approximately where you can be found during the course of the day. This is necessary in the event of some emergency so the adults can have a good idea of where to find you quickly, without wasting valuable time.

  12. Scouts will not be allowed to use aerosol insecticides. Pump spray and lotion types are acceptable. Only adults may have and use aerosol type sprays.

  13. "LEAVE NO TRACE" CAMPING WILL BE OUR CAMP MOTTO. Pick up trash as you see it regardless of who dropped it. We will always leave an area better than we found it.
