Purpose: The accounts are intended to be used by the “active” Scouts and “active” Adult Leaders of Troop 271 to
offset expenses incurred in the scouting program. An “active” Scout is defined as a scout that attends at least 40% of the
troop activities and is currently listed on the Troop 271 charter. An “active” Adult Leader is defined as an adult that is
currently listed on the Troop 271 charter. Scouts will also benefit from the financial responsibility learned from having
an account.
Funding: The annual Troop 271 Fish Fry provides the major funding of the accounts (see Fish Fry Rules for
dispersement of funds).
Use: The money in these accounts belongs to Troop 271. The Scouts and Adult Leaders are the stewards of their
accounts and are encouraged to use the money for scouting activities. Withdraws from the accounts can be used for “scouting
activities” or “scouting expenses” only. “Scouting activities” is defined as Camping, Summer Camp and other scout planned
trips. “Scouting expenses” is defined as scout membership dues, re-charter dues and camping supplies such as uniforms,
sleeping bags, back packs, pocket knives and other necessary camping supplies. Other uses would include limited expenses
incurred for Eagle projects and up to $75 for the Eagle Scout Court of Honor reception. Purchases more than $300 within
any 3 month period must be approved by the Troop Committee. These purchases should only be made if the Scout or Adult
Leader is “active”. Reimbursement of “Scout Expenses” purchased will require a store receipt.
Transfers: Transfer from one scout account to another scout in the same family will be considered by the Troop
Committee upon written request of the scout’s parents. Transfer from an adult account will be allowed upon the written
request of the adult account holder. Transfer from a scout account to an adult account will also be considered by the
Troop Committee. Transfers from a scout account to an adult account will be at 50% value with the remaining 50% going to
the troop account. Transfers from programs other than Troop 271 (for example Venture Crew 371) will not be allowed.
The funds raised in these accounts are from Troop 271 fund raisers and should benefit Troop 271.
Zeroing of Troop Accounts: Zeroing will occur when a Scout or Adult Leader is no longer listed on the charter
and is considered inactive – not having attended any Scouting event or activity in the 6 months following the annual
chartering. Six months after a Scout or Adult Leader is inactive and was not listed on the annual charter in December,
the balance of their account will be transferred to the troop account.
